Sand River Selous Game Reserve

Welcome to Sand River Selous National park in Tanzania. Set on a rocky peninsula on the Rufiji River with 8 large bandas in impressive surrounds.Sand Rivers Selous is a very good camp set on a bend in the Rufiji just down from Steiglers Groge. It is still the best located camp in the park as it has almost private access to the surrounding area, being set away from the other camps.

Excellent guides and one of the best opportunities for walking safaris and "fly-camping". The lodge is both expedition base, and safari retreat; it's small but beautifully formed, with an imposing mess, swimming pool, excellent cooking and careful, at-your-whim service.

Lie back in one of the eight spacious open-fronted cottages, built from stone and thatch, and be amazed at the magnificent views of the Rufiji River below. Each cottage has a large en-suite bathroom with flush toilets, and showers with hot and cold water.

The main lounge and dining area are exceptional and situated right on the river. Sit back and relax with the cool breeze blowing off the river and marvel at this pristine corner of wild Africa. There is also a pool situated just off the lounge area from which one can relax and still take in the immaculate views.

All the cottages at Sand River Selous Camp are well spread out which adds to the exclusivity of the Safari experience at this fantastic Selous Camp.

Sand Selous is the base for some of Tanzania's best safari guides who are there to take you out for daily adventures; boating on the Rufiji, weaving past hippopotamus and crocodile; driving on the trail of lion or wild dog; an elephant bush walk; a night sleeping out under the stars, or fishing in solitude, barefoot on a river rock.

One of Rivers most coveted trip is Selous Walking Safari - a four day wilderness walk in the seriously remote parts of the park.

Explore the remotest corners of the area over a set period, with fly-camps moving every night. Walk through magical and diverse landscapes, seeing things not always visible from a vehicle.

Each day is designed to be different, and to offer unrivalled exposure to the area. Walks are concentrated around the early morning and late afternoons, with opportunities for fishing, and relaxing in the middle of the day.
