The Giraffe Garden Hotel has nice grounds and small, tired rooms.
The restaurant is adequate.
This is not a tourist hotel - they have very few non-
Tanzanian visitors and don't have a lot of English-speaking support.
When ordering in the restaurant, it is wise to know how to ask "What do you have?" rather than trying to order from a menu.
If you order goat in a Tanzanian restaurant and they don't have any, they may well go down to the market and find a butcher who has goat... or possibly even kill one.
You may wait quite some time for your food.
A traveler has to have realistic expectations. At the giraffe you'll have a reasonable room and reasonable food - if that's enough for you, you'll get a good night's sleep.
You may or may not have water all the time. You may or may not have hot water.
This is the real Africa, not a facility designed so tourists can avoid experiencing the conditions regular Tanzanians live with every day.
