Transit Motel Ukonga

Since traffic in Dar is notoriously bad (it can take up to 2hrs across town as peak time); we decided to stay in Transit Motel Ukonga for the few hours in Dar before departure. It was sufficient and adequate for that purpose; but for any longer stay I wouldn't recommend it.

The staff were welcoming and accommodating; and we communicated just fine in English and basic Swahili. The rooms are simple and clean; and the A/C very refreshing. Yes, there is music outside but it ended sometime during the night.

Ear plugs may be a good solution for light sleepers but this didn't stop me for a few hours sleep. We did order the beef burgers (most other choices were not available) from the restaurant –

They did arrange a taxi for our 330am departure. Bottom line: if you are needing a basic place close to the airport for a few hours without breaking the bank then Ukonga is the sensible choice. It is good value for what you get this close to the airport.
