Serena Mountain Lodge

I found Serena Mountain Lodge to be an excellent place to relax. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Each meal was perfectly prepared with a good choice of starter from the buffet table.

I was lucky enough to see a herd of 49 elephant along with buffalo, water buck, wart hog, hyena, baboons and giant hog.

There was a very informative lecture given at 9pm (free) which I would certainly recommend.

I decided to go on the guided forest walk which again was very informative, this lasted about 2 hours and you are given nice green wellies to wear to stop the ants biting your feet and a bamboo walking stick to fend off the wild animals (There is an armed ranger)

The guides give you a nice surprise half way through the walk but I won't spoil this for them. The walk is not arduous and is over fairly level terrain.

Ask for a room with a balcony as the first floor ones don't have them.

Watch out for the monkeys on the viewing balcony as they steal your cake!

You should be aware that there is an entrance fee to the National Park in which the lodge is located.

50 US Dollars or about 4500 Kshs per person, you also have to pay 300 Kshs for each vehicle.

Just two and a half hours by car from Nairobi, Serena Mountain Lodge is located on the slopes of Mt Kenya at an altitude of over 2,000 meters. This area has one of the most consistently high records in Kenya for big visits and sightings.

The Lodge is surrounded by a dense rain forest that comes alive at dusk with the exhilarating sounds of the African bush.

There is a viewing bunker, where guests have a spectacular close-up view of animals at the water-hole.

The lodge has 42 bedrooms attractively furnished with indigenous wood and African art. Each room has a private bathroom and a spacious veranda overlooking the water hole.

Elephant, buffalo, rhino and waterbuck are regularly sighted by guests on evening and daytime game drives.
