The Thorn Tree cafe and hotel is named after the tree in its coutyard - which has messages pinned to it for people travelling around Africa - a relic of the old "post restante". Probably just a gimic in the age of sms and email, but a nice link with the past, and a bit of fun.
The service and food are great, and you can either have a full on meal or just a coffee or a drink, it's perfect, part is open air, but set back from the street, the inside part is modern, but with great prints on the walls and artefacts.
For the 2nd time, I chose this cafe for the last dinner in Nairobi for the small group that I was with.
The service was terrific, the food excellent and the value exceptional.
We sat upstairs in the beautiful bar for about an hour & a half before going for dinner, we only had tea & coffee & the server treated us like we were his most welcome guests of the day!
Even found scissors for 2 of the ladies to cut up some fabric! Highly recommend the bar, the the cafe - you can't go wrong! Have also stayed in the hotel & it was great.
