Royal Mirage Hotel Dar es Salaam is nice hotel with friendly staff, they are helpful people. At the end of a business trip out of town in one of the beach resorts, I took a few days off to see the city centre. I considered several hotels and narrowed it down to Royal Mirage.
Royal Mirage is good value for bed and breakfast in a double air conditioned room for dual occupancy. Rooms were clean, linen comfortable and changed daily and breakfast included.
The check-in was smooth and they agreed to hold my booking while I found a forex bureau to change USD (better to pay in TZshs - somehow one gets more value). I had the option to pay in USD but opted to change.
Breakfast is nothing to write home about and the in-house restaurant is pricey and probably not good value for money.
There's a clean and busy restaurant (The Chef) 5 minutes away from Royal Mirage - to your right as you exit the main entrance.
For less than 5000TZShs one can have an excellent breakfast with all the trimmings, meals average 3,500 to 7,000TzSHS and the portions are generous. P.S. In dar, the busier the restaurant the better as you are assured of fresh food!
There's an Internet cafe for an hour of surfing time) right
next to the hotel (to the right) and the azam ice cream parlour / takeaway
coffee house next to the chef restaurant mentioned above.
Staff are mostly friendly (there's a pleasant
girl at the reception) and speak good english. There's a moody gentleman during
the nights but if its just your key you want its probably passable...
Rooms have comfortable mattresses, air
conditioning and a fan and are ensuite. They are cleaned daily too. A bottle of
water is provided free daily.
Royal Mirage Hotel is a budget hotel with a few
trimmings - I would stay here again.
