I visited the Maweni Farm in Lushoto Town Tanzania for two nights. We really enjoyed the beautiful spot, great service, friendly staff and nice food.
It's very well suited for a relaxed, quiet time and beautiful hiking tours. I'd really recommend going there!
The farm is located a couple of km's from the little town Soni, nearby Lushoto. The Farm's manager picked us up in his car (for free) from the Soni bus station.
The Farm consists of three major buildings; well kept, dating from the colonial times. There are also several luxury tent accommodations in front of a pond in the garden.
The location is beautiful, an old colonial farmhouse nestled in the Usambara mountains.
The house has a fire place and a collection of books and games. The gardens are luscious and perfect for relaxing or birding.
There is a play room for small children with lego and other toys.
There are several different types of rooms available: a beautiful large ensuite within the old house, several smaller rooms within the old house with shared bathrooms, small rooms in a separate wing with shared bathrooms, and some luxury tents.
The rooms within the old house are the best value, especially the ones with shared bathroom.
The food at the farm is very good and they will let you use the kitchen occasionally to make your own food if you need to.
Beware that there is a seminary nearby so Maweni can be very noisy when the seminary holds all night long singing during Christian festivals! All in all we really enjoyed our stay here.
A last word on the service. The Tanzanian bus company gave us the wrong departure time for the bus to Dar-es-Salaam, so we missed it. To solve our problem, the Farm's very kind manager made an 80 km's round trip to drop us of at another bus station; he only asked to pay for some gas. We were very happy with this extraordinary gesture, what a great service!
