I recently spent 3 separate occasions at Jambo Inn Hotel Dar es Salaam . It is cheap and we had no trouble with security.
Having the restaurant on site is also a bonus if you don't want to venture out into the town (although bear in mind that there are some days it is closed due to a religious holiday).Need to remember this is budget hotel –
It is the best in area.
Good central location within easy walking distance to ferries & points of interest in central Dar es Salaam.
Situated on a somewhat busy street, yet noise was at tolerable levels throughout day and evening.
Nighttime was relatively quiet (central Dar is not "peacefully quiet" unless you want to spend at large hotels – eg. Serena or Kilimanjaro).
Management is onsite & virtually available at any time; staff were well trained, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
Rooms are self contained & clean with mosquito nets & ceiling fans – some have AC as an option; showers & hot water are ok, but not great.
Internet café with small mini mart with snacks, ice cream & beverages; Wifi is available & works in rooms.
No alcohol is permitted on premises.
Restaurant serves a wide variety of good food (a mix of local, Indian, Chinese, & very good BBQ) at very reasonable prices.
There are a couple other BBQ spots within a couple minutes to miss up variety.
The hotel staff actually worked at satisfying our requests;
highly recommend for budget traveler seeking to experience a bit of culture
along the way.
