Genesis Motel

Genesis Motel was a great place to stay in when Tanzania didn't have anything better.

Nowadays, however, it compares badly with what is n offer elsewhere- even in MIkumi itself, both against the budget tourist offer (Tanswiss, Halfway Hotel) and the run of the mill self contained guesthouse rooms available in town for less then ten thousand Tanzanian shillings.

The rooms at Genesis are very basic, though clean, and very cramped.

You will struggle to make the mosquito net fit the oversized bed.

Some nets are full of holes and the screens let in the mosquitoes.

The staff are very helpful and friendly but the food is not great and the service very slow indeed.

Other Hotels and Vacation Villas

Personally I find Genesis a charming reminder of how Tanzanian hotels used to be, but not in a good way.

Other travelers recommend Halfway Lodge as an alternative for those on a similar or lower budget looking for somewhere clean and good value in Mikumi.
