Bamburi Villa Annchen Resort

Villa Annchen was the perfect weekend getaway about a 45-minute drive north of Mombasa. The service was excellent, food delicious (the fresh seafood is well worth the additional cost!), and the Swahili decor charming (Rasmus designed the entire villa and all the furniture within himself!). But my favorite feature of Villa Annchen is the gorgeous pool overlooking the creek - perfect for a cool dip after a long, hot day.

In terms of activities, you can walk down to the creek and swim a bit, but as a caveat there may be some naked kids swimming and staring at you, and the creek bottom is very slimy.

For lunch, Rasmus made two excellent restaurant recommendations: 1) La Marina (Mtwapa creek-front) and 2) Monsoons (ocean-front near the Jumba Ruins).

My only complaint is that the villa is a bit far from the main road, making it a bit difficult to get around if you don't have a car, but the staff can help you arrange for piki-pikis and taxis.

The place is very quiet and safe, but still very close to "mtwapa city”, where you find many things to explore and enjoy the real African day and nightlife!

The rooms are absolutely clean and nice to stay, as well as every part of villa annchen, even though we travel a lot,choosing villa annchen was a bit of very good luck we had, and we would always highly recommend this place to everybody coming to Mombasa, especially mtwapa or anywhere on the north coast.
