Timau River Lodge is an undiscovered delight in a beautiful area of Kenya. It provides a perfect stopping point for a trip to Samburu National Park or as an alternative to the stuffy, expensive accommodation in and around Mt Kenya National Park.
The lodge is teeming with geese, ducks, dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens and in case none of this feels wild enough, monkeys too!
One can easily walk around the camp for hours, discovering something new every few minutes, not to mention the roaring waterfall nearby.
The accommodations consist of rustic cabins that
were designed by the owners.
They are simple and do not allow too much natural light in. What a shame because the natural light is beautiful in this part of the country.
There are no frills here - the bathrooms are clean but simple and
the decor is outdated. But the simplicity and charm of the place totally makes
up for this.
The food is all cooked by one of the owners and
is divine! Using local ingredients, the meals are amazing.
All in all, Timau River Lodge offers a unique
experience at a very affordable price. In this way, it is unusual.
Most of the other lodges are overpriced and overbooked. This lodge makes no qualms about its simplicity ad rustic charm and charges a very reasonable rate for clean, basic accommodation and excellent food and location.
