The Nile Porch

The Nile Porch Hotel in Jinja Town Uganda, and the adjoining Black Lantern restaurant, are a 'must visit' when coming to Jinja. This Eastern Ugandan town rightly claims the 'title' as 'Adventure Capital of East Africa' and activities can keep one busy for several days.

From horse riding to bungee jumping, rafting, boating, kayaking, quadding, something is available for every taste and budget.

Or just sit high above the Nile's rapids on the porch of the Black Lantern, listen to the sound of the river and sip a cold beer, or many ...

Accommodation at the Nile Porch is clean and adequate and really for the few hours of sleeping, as the action is 'outdoors'.

Arriving in the dark was intriguing and fun because waking up in the morning to the splendor of the Nile at your feet, the scent of lillies wafting through your tent flaps and monkeys swinging from the trees cannot be topped.

You feel like you are on a safari but have the comfort of a 5 star hotel. The free insect repellant was welcome and appreciated.

Stunning views! Because we arrived in the dark, the signage could have been a little better, but we phoned ahead and got instructions and they waited up for us.

The accomodations were clean, beautiful and scenic. The beds comfy, the towels were adequate and the mosquito netting plentiful. I would return again a million times over!!!

The setting of the Nile Porch is just amazing-the bungalows overlook the falls and you will never get a better view from a bathroom!!

Its a tented lodge, but its extremely comfortable and has everything you need. There is an excellent spa and I had a great massage.

The food at the restaurant was delicious-try the olives!

The staff were very helpful and assisted in booking me on a brilliant rafting trip with a small company called Nalubale (which I would also highly recommend)-

I narrowly escaped going with a more commercial company and hundreds of other people!! So in short, I'll be back!
