The Fishing Lodge Guest House is a cabin (in fact, there are two of them about 100 metres apart),
set in the southern half of the Aberdare National Park, which covers the Aberdares Range of mountains in central Kenya.
The lodge is owned by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) who manage the National Park.
Each of the two identical lodges has three rooms, two doubles and a single, and two bathrooms.
There is a small kitchen with a gas burner and lounge with a great fire place, and a terrace with a wonderful view.
There is running water, which is heated by a wood burner (lit by the caretaker) in the early morning and in the evening.
There
is no electricity, lighting is by paraffin lamp (supplied). Bring warm clothes
- its close to the Equator but is still at 3000 metres (9800 ft) altitude.
The lodges are a fantastic place to spend time
with a family, with good access to the different ecologies in the National
Park, and close to several dramatic waterfalls.
Booking is required in advance - contact the KWS
headquarters in Nairobi or the Park Warden. The price varies a little by
season, and also changes whether you are a Kenyan citizen, a resident or a
tourist.
