Sand Beach Resort Nabugabo

You are Here: › Sand Beach Resort

We were booked at Sand Beach Resort in Masaka Town Uganda by mistake as the three 'Resorts' in the area have changed names, owners and locations too frequently for guide books to keep up.

First impressions were not all that good as the entrance gate was wired up and admission was protracted.

However we were shown to our newly constructed bungalows which were very nicely done although being new, the approach paths had not been laid and were a bit squelchy after recent rain.

The bed was comfortable and the Mosquito net was a very innovative version of an Igloo tent which fitted nicely over the sleeping area.

Much better than the usual coronet hanging device which never really covers everywhere.

Food was served in an adjacent Bar/Restaurant in rustic style. The cuisine was fine and thoroughly cooked.

Mainly African dishes with a hint of Europe from a limited but adequate menu. Cold Beers and Softees.

Accommodation for drivers was not really available as the place probably caters more to self drive week-enders from Masaka and Kampala.

The grounds, when finished, will be quite nice, with shrubs and trees and a nice Lakeside frontage to Nabugabo.

This is excluded from Victoria by a sandy spit but can still kick up waves in a strong wind. There is a boat for hire should guests wish to venture out to visit breeding Tern Colonies etc.,

Overall service was slack but friendly enough and it could well be that we were the first Wazungu to visit for some time.

All in all a quite pleasant base from which to explore the surrounding area and we enjoyed our stay.
