Sable Valley Treehouse

We travelled to Sable Valley Treehouse Lodge in Shimba Hills National Park. The whole trip from start to finish was, amazing, fascinating, wonderful. The drive along the red dirt tracks after leaving the highway at Ukunda was an adventure in itself. Passing villages and small communities, rolling hillsides, and people going about their daily lives.

We were met on arrival by Moulei, probable the happiest chap in the world, smiles, laughter and genuine good humour.

Yes, we slept outside under the moon, listening to the bush babies using their vocal cords to good effect with backing from the crickets, took photos of the open fronted bathroom. Magical.

And what a wonderful night it was! The rain on the morning we travelled made the journey interesting - very slidy on the hills- but when we got there it was worth it.

We were the only guests- the other tree house was empty, so we had Mulei, our Butler/guide to ourselves. He was fantastic - nothing was too much trouble, but he managed to look after us without us feeling embarrassed by all of the attention!

Because of the weather, we didn't do the afternoon bush walk with a guide, so Mulei took us out in the morning- he was incredibly knowledgeable and informative and had eyes like a hawk, spotting elephants on the surrounding hills.

The bottle of bubbly in the jacuzzi was fabulous, overlooking the valley.

Dinner was served on the balcony too. Sleeping to the sounds of the bush was so lovely, and we woke to a bird of prey on the balcony railings watching us.

This was such a magical experience, made so by both the location and Mulei's skills.
