Melia Zanzibar Hotel

Hotel Melia Zanzibar offered way more than I expected.

The main website does not do the hotel justice. I thought I was going to some small beach hotel and ended up in a modern paradise!

•Staff - Every staff that I passed greeted me with a smile, was extremely welcoming, courteous and friendly.

They always offered assistance whether it was for carrying one of my heavy bags, suggesting a beach activity, or town excursion,

or ensuring that my stay was going as planned.

I arrived very late and my luggage was lost but that did not matter at all at this hotel.

•Hotel – The grounds were meticulously well groomed and clean. For me this place is huge and fun to walk through just to look at the gardens. Now that Im back at work I wish that I had extend my stay for a few more days.

•Restaurants – There were four including one on the beach, and the Jeti Bar over the ocean! My first night there I had Senegalese food, Then there was a night where Arabic food was served, Mediterranean food, oh yea and I cant forget the event SEAFOOD Barbeque!

•Beach – Outstanding and clean!

My feet would sink into the white grain sand as I would stroll each morning to find pretty seashells.

I heard someone complain about the beach being quite distance from the hotel’s main lobby and being on the east side of the island. I personally rose early and got some stunning photos of the SUNRISE several mornings.

The hotel does offer a golf cart service free of charge .

Each time I left my room and was about to go to the beach or spa I was offered a lift and asked for my pick up time.

If I requested this service 15 minutes in advance I never had to wait. If I decided to stay on the beach later than I had specified, then a simple phone call from the Melia restaurant on the beach sufficed.

Anyway after most meals served at Melia’s Spices restaurant it would do me good to walk around a bit, especially in the mornings.

•Rooms - (just pick one, you wont be disappointed) There are several type from ones with a garden view, ocean views, suites if you need more space and then there are the even larger vilas.

There are other rooms called pavilions situated directly over the water.

I will definitely try and book one upon my return.

All rooms come with internet, huge bathrooms, with a separate room for the toilet and separate shower, deep soaking tubs and if that isn’t enough, there is a second shower outdoors to use underneath the stars. Don’t forget the flowers and oils for your bath!

•The hotel is child friendly.

•The hotel has a lounge downstairs with free WIFI and computers with internet access.

•Sadly, I didn’t spend much time in the library lounge, yet another bar.

•The only fault I find with this hotel, is its store/ souvenir shop offered only the basics. There is so much room for potential.
