Am being put up here for 10 days on a research trip and think I might even be the first guest.
Maybe it was my own ignorance but Kigali is nothing like I expected.
Kigali Guestlux Hotel is totally modern.
Clearly no one knows about the place because I am the only guest - so felt the need to give a shout out.
My room is large, very pretty, with beautiful new King bed, private en suite bathroom with great water pressure and always hot, hot water.
I
brought a mosquito net and industrial strength repellent thinking I'd need it -
no such thing. Not bitten once and I've been far out into the bush as well.
I highly recommend this hotel. My one
reservation is that it is not in the City Center with the Mille Collines and
the Serena - so you have to have transport or do the taxi thing - and consequently
there's not a big population hanging out at the bar restaurant - but I imagine
that will really change when word gets out about the place which is half the
price of the named hotels you get on Expedia etc.
And the reality of Kigali is that you need transport to get around anyway. I'm lucky enough to be picked up for all activities - but I could see that being a quandary at this location if that weren't the case.
Emily has been the greatest host and organized a lot of things for me which made my life much easier when I was there.
Additionally, the rooms are really nice and the photos on the website are definitely showing what you will get on arrival.
The area is very secure too. Compared to other big hotels, the service is more personalized at Guestlux and the rooms are better value for money.
The hotel is located in a very safe area, the view from the balcony of the room to the mountains is lovely, I woke up every morning at dawn to watch the sun rise. I really hope to return soon to Rwanda and staying in this hotel again.
