If you are looking for a budget hotel in Central (but not in town) Kampala, Hotel Kenrock is a great option in terms of value for money. It is located in Muyenga, 100 metres away from the ‘Rest Corner’ where you have a supermarket, ATM, and some restaurants. Also the bars and shops in Kabalagala are at a walking distance.
.
This place is simply great value for
money in a town with some very very expensive hotel options and not much at the
value end that represents comfort.
I have been at Kenrock many times and it has
been the best so far. It has clean rooms, the area is quiet (unlike
Kabalagala!!) and the most important thing: the staff are very nice and
helpful, always ready to assist you.
Another good thing is that you have WI-FI
internet, which is not so common here in Uganda. And there is a nice garden to
have some drinks or meals or just check your emails.
The restaurant offers a variety of very good value meals and snacks, i have just finished a toasted egg sandwich and pot of coffee, the bill in front of me is 6000 shillings, less than £2!
You know you are onto a winner when you enquire at a front desk and are immediately presented with several keys to go and view the different categories of room available.
I opted for 102 which is the biggest room in the hotel with a good size balcony at the back of the property.
The bathroom is large with a separate shower enclosure. The room is very clean with good solid furniture, plenty of storage and above all else reliable quick in-room wifi.
The price..... 41,000 shillings per night!! In UK terms this is under £15 per night including taxes!!
I would highly recommend Kenrock either for a short or long stay in Kampala.
