Golden Dragon Lodge Zanzibar

Golden Dragon Lodge Zanzibar is a new hotel opened by pear diving Pemban Chinese on the more peaceful eastern side of Nungwi.

Its on the rocks, with really gorgeous views of the sea, great verandas off each room and lovely airy bedrooms.

Bathrooms, brought in from China are clean, spacious, modern and have a little balcony out the back.

Best is being able to open the 3 sets of sliding doors to let the cool Zanzibar breeze through the bedroom and bath room out to the back and to lie in bed and watch the dawn break over the beautiful sea.

I found staff most friendly, and management efficient. They are planning a pool, tours and other elements to this place.

Only downside is the beach at certain times of year almost disappears as the sea sweeps the sand out, only to return it 6 months later. So beach is at its best in July.

The typical white sand beach that is more permanent is a 50 metre walk to the right hand side of the rocks at low tide.

Its not the sort of place you should go if you want the vibrant Nungwi drug infested nightlife hell, but is a great quiet alternative. Good Chinese food too and a gentle friendly vibe.
