Essence Restaurant in Zanzibar

Having eaten all inclusive for a while we decided to try something new and stumbled upon Essence Restaurant in Zanzibar.

It was fantastic. The freshly made drinks went perfectly with the fantastic food.

Having eaten there once, we ate there a number of times so I have had a good range of meals including the burger which was delicious and the shwama which the chef made mild for me perfectly as requested.

As the portion sizes are so good I did not have room for desert the first time but made sure I tried it the next time and this too hit the spot perfectly.

Other Restaurants and Quick Food Outlets

This restaurant is perfect for you if you want to eat by the beach and want good food, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

What more could you want?we happened to chance upon this restaurant whilst on our trip to Zanzibar.

What struck me immediately was the simple, yet elegant decor.

I totally loved the lampshades that hung from the high roof.

The restaurant is set on the beach located in the grounds of Kendwa beach hotel.

If you have never been to zanzibar, i would highly recommend it.

But back to the restaurant. as you walk in off the beach there is a shisha lounge (we didnt try this but i saw others that did).

you are greeted by well dressed uniformed staff and taken to your table.

Tis a large bar with ample seating and the kitchen is open so you can see the chefs at work.

I was told that the chef was internationally renowned and worked in top hotels around the world.

Anyway, the menu is extensive and has something for everyone, burgers, curries, fish, meat and vegetarian options.

A bread basket with dip was automatically brought to the table, which i thought was a nice touch.

The atmosphere is completely relaxed, yes it can take some time for the food to come to the table but T.I.A (This Is Africa) and you are on holiday so who cares - some things just cant be rushed!!

Would i go back again, for sure, in fact we liked the place so much we went back the next day for lunch - steak sandwich and mango milkshake, and yes the caramel sundae.

Is it pricey? I didnt think so and given the size of the meals its definitely value for money. im going back to zanz soon and will be dining at Essence without doubt.
