The Africa House Hotel in Zanzibar

You are Here: › The Africa House Hotel

I had visited Zanzibar some years back and one of the things that had stuck in my mind was a sundowner on the raised veranda of Africa House Hotel and now back with my family I also wanted them to share this experience. It did not disappoint! We got there before 6pm and if you want a good seat you should come before the sunset starts and then...... just sit back..... and .... enjoy the experience..... the reddening sky, dhows sailing across the sun and supported with a suitable drink in hand!

While you are there have a little look back into the depths of the hotel - they simply ooze of days gone buy and if you want a shot of a classic African map - take the ceiling in the upstairs dining room.

After the sun had departed we went to the upstairs restaurant and surprisingly, we were the only people there because the food was good and with the Indian ocean breeze blowing, who would complain.

Two things to note - the restaurant does not open until 7pm so you cannot watch the sunset whilst taking an early super .

It's a wonderful old building, with clean rooms and aircon throughout.

A GREAT place to stay in Stone Town as it feels like it has a history of it's own but with mod cons/comfort too.

The Sunset Bar overlooks the sea and is fantastic for drinks/cocktails in the evening.

You could party if staying here, but also just as easily have quieter times too (our room was near the Sunset Bar, but once inside the room it was very quiet and peaceful).
