The Stefano Moshi Memorial University College (SMMUCo) is one of the six constituent colleges of Tumaini University; other colleges of Tumaini University are:

Iringa University College (IUCo), Makumira University College (MUCo), Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCM - College), Tumaini Dar es Salaam College (TU-DARCo) and Sebastian Kolowa University College (SEKUCo).

The University College has been developed from the Masoka Management Training Institute (MMTI) and Mwika Lutheran Bible College (LBC).

It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania - Northern Diocese and it is a Multi Campus University College.

Currently SMMUCo has a campus in Masoka, Mwika and Moshi Town. Masoka Campus is currently serving as the main Campus of SMMUCo. Projected campuses are Machame, Siha and Karatu.

The main Campus of SMMUCo will be at Machame Campus in Hai District.

SMMUCo has been granted:

• Certificate of Full Registration (CFR) issued by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU);

• Charter of Incorporation issued by The United Republic of Tanzania;

• Exemption from the National Board of Accountancy and Auditors of Tanzania (NBAA) to its Accounting programmes.

Programmes at SMMUCo:

Stefano Moshi Memorial University College is offering the following programmes:

1. Degree Programmes

• Bachelor of Accountancy (B Acc.)

• Bachelor of Business Administration with Education (BBA Ed.)

• Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Management (BA PAM)

• Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSc. IT)

• Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management(BSc. HTM)

• Bachelor of Education (Arts) - (B Ed.)

2. Non Degree Programmes:

• Advanced Diploma in Accountancy (ADA)

• Advanced Diploma in Business Administration and Management (ADB)

• Diploma in Accountancy (DAC)

• Diploma in Business Administration and Management (DBAM)

• Diploma in Office Management and Administration (DOMA)

• Diploma in Information Technology (DIT)

• Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Studies (DHT)

• Diploma in Theology (D Th.)

• Diploma in Education (D Ed.)

• Certificate of Accountancy and Business Administration (CABA)

3: Status of Exemption from National Board of Accountancy and Auditors (NBAA) of Tanzania:

Programmes in accounting field already have got an EXEMPTION from NBAA as follows:

Holders of Certificate of Accounting exempted from:-

The Accounting Technician I & II

They will be eligible to start the Board’s examinations at Foundation Stage.

Minimum entry to the programme required one to have passed at least five credit passes; English and Mathematics should be amongst those subjects passed.

A Note:

Candidates who have no required qualifications at O-level secondary education will not be entitled for this exemption.

Holders of Diploma in Accounting be exempted from:-

The Accounting Technician I & II

Foundation Stage Modules A & B

They will be eligible to start the Board’s examinations at Intermediate Stage.

Holders of Advanced Diploma in Accounting be exempted from:-

The Accounting Technician I & II

Foundation Stage Modules A & B

Intermediate Stage Module C & D

They will be eligible to start the Board’s examinations at the Final Stage Modules and E & F.

Holders of Bachelor Degree in Accounting be exempted from:-

The Accounting Technician I & II

Foundation Stage Modules A & B

Intermediate Stage Module C & D

They will be eligible to start the Board’s examinations at the Final Stage Modules and E & F.

Note that:

1. Exemption is granted on effective from 2005/2006 academic year.

2. The advanced diploma programmes are being phased out and no fresh applications are being received.

Admission Requirements:

According to Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) Directives:

Candidates who completed A-level from 1988 to date and are applying for degree programmes under DIRECT ENTRY CATEGORY should channel their applications through TCU’s centralized Admission System.

Candidates who are applying under EQUIVALENT CATEGORY and MATURE AGE ENTRY CATEGORY should apply for degree programmes directly to STEFANO MOSHI MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (SMMUCo).

Non Degree programmes (Diplomas and Certificate) candidates should also apply direct to STEFANO MOSHI MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (SMMUCo).

A. DEGREE PROGRAMMES (three years).

(i) Bachelor of Business Administration with Education (BBA – Ed)

(ii) Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Management (BA PAM)

(iii) Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management (BSc. HTM)

(iv) Bachelor of Accountancy (BAcc.)

(v) Bachelor of Arts in Education (BEd)

(vi) Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSc. IT)

MINIMUM ENTRY QUALIFICATION

(a) Direct entry

An applicant must have the following qualifications:-Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least three credit passes

AND

Must have at least two principals in ‘A’ Level with a total grade of 4.5 or more points (Where A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, S=0.5).

(b) Equivalent Entry:

Applicants who are eligible for equivalent entry to a degree programme must:

Hold at least a certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with three credits or five passes.

AND

Must have at least a grade B diploma in the relevant field of study, approved by SMMUCo Board and Tumaini University Senate.

(c) Mature age Entry.

Applicants under mature age entry scheme must fulfill the following conditions.

• Must be 25 years of age or older.

• Must have either obtained at least three credits or five passes in approved subjects at O`level.

• Must have attended and passed tests set in extra mural classes, residential courses or courses offered by an Adult Education Centre or College recognized by an approved authority.

• Must have sat and passed an institution `s mature age entry examination set by Stefano Moshi Memorial University College.

B. DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES (two years except vii which is four years).

(i) Diploma in Business Administration (DBAM)

(ii) Diploma in Office Management and Administration (DOMA)

(iii) Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Studies (DHT)

(iv) Diploma in Accountancy (DAC)

(v) Diploma in Education (DEd)

(vi) Diploma in Information Technology (DIT)

(vii) Diploma in Theology (DTh)

MINIMUM ENTRY QUALIFICATION:

(a) Direct Entry

An applicant must have:

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least three credit passes,

AND

Certificate of Advanced Secondary Examination with at least two subsidiary passes.

(b) Equivalent Entry

Applicants who are eligible for equivalent admission to a Diploma programme must:

Hold a certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least two credits or five passes.

AND

Hold a certificate in the relevant field of study from a recognized Institution and must be approved by the SMMUCo Academic Board and Tumaini University Senate.

C. CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME (one year):

Certificate in Accountancy and Business Administration (CABA).

MINIMUM ENTRY QUALIFICATION:

An applicant must have:

A certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), with two credits or five passes one of which must be mathematics.
