St. Monica Hostel and Hotel in Zanzibar

You are Here: › St. Monica Hostel

My choice of St. Monica hotel in Zanzibar was determined by advice of a guidebook and a good location close to the city centre of Stone town and the bus station from where minibuses run all over the whole Zanzibar Island.

If you're after a top end budget room in Zanzibar's Stone Town then I think you'll struggle to get anywhere better than St Monica's.

Hostel is situated in an old colonial building on the site of the former Slave Market. Museum, Cathedral church of Christ, art gallery and shop are in the same site.

Hostel guests therefore can visit this museum free of charge.

Small cafe on the ground floor served simple breakfast. Hostel provides basic accommodation.

We had a small twin room with bathroom outside.

During our stay there was power cut at the hostel as well in the whole Stone town, so we were provided by candles at night and our experience with this hostel was like a travel in a time machine - old historical building with many nice balconies and stairs and nights without electricity. Very romantic.

The staff are friendly and the rooms are nicely furnished and really clean.

We were in room T which was in the building next door to the reception and also had a nice shared veranda and an alfresco style TV lounge with satellite TV.

The price also includes a good breakfast. The location is great as you're only a few minutes walk from the heart of Stone Town.
