While on your vacation to Nairobi, why not try Slims Restaurant Nairobi on Lenana Road? This is the best place for an American Bar/Grill/Steakhouse(excellent steaks) and name it.

Recently, on a Tuesday, I was leaving the gym when a friend offered to buy me dinner.

Not one to resist such an offer,

I quickly finished what I was doing and accepted to meet her in 15 minutes, at Slims.

My friend is a regular at Slims Restaurant Nairobi .

She loves the ambiance and thinks they make the best Margaritas in town. I don’t quite agree with her.

Nonetheless, I must admit their cocktails are very good and more pocket friendly than most in Nairobi.

Slims Restaurant Nairobi is a chic, sexy, sleek bar & restaurant located on Lenana Road, next to Lenana Mount Hotel.

I had been there a couple of times previously for drinks but didn’t quite understand what all the hype was about.

On that Tuesday, I found a reason of my own to hype about Slims.

As is often the case, Slims Restaurant Nairobi was not very full that night.

I have only seen Slims packed to capacity once, on a Saturday when a neo-soul event was taking place.

That Saturday, Slims was full of interesting people, good music, and the drinks were flowing.

I found it hard to tear myself from Slims that night and didn’t make it home until 3am.

Back to Tuesday dinner.

We began our evening with drinks. I no longer remember what I drank that night, but most probably, it was a strawberry Daiquiri or a Mojito.

I was curious to find out what kind of food Slims served, because I had never heard anyone previously (or since then) tell me that they had eaten at Slims.

The menu at Slims Restaurant Nairobi consisted of a lot of meat, mostly steaks and grills. I also noticed an extensive list of burgers.

I don’t usually order meat when I dine, but that night, I decided to go with the flow. I ordered an ‘Animal Farm’, which was basically pork chops, while the people sitting closest to me ordered a burger and a plate of fruit.

The first thing that marked us, when our food arrived, was the good presentation.

My pork chops were served with a healthy serving of vegetables and extremely good fries. I am part Ugandan, and visit Kampala often. If you don’t already know: pork to Ugandans is a religion! (Please pardon the blasphemy.)

Once you’ve tasted pork in Kampala, very rarely can you be impressed by pork anywhere else. The pork I ate at Slims was impressive! Dare I use the same phrase I used to describe the prawns I had at Azalea?

The pork was perfect and left nothing to be desired. The burger and the fruit plate were both good too. The burger was succulent and well spiced, while the fruit plate was well presented and had a wide variety of fruit on it.

From a poll of my dinner companions, it seems they also enjoyed their meal very much. Everyone, except for one person who found her meal too spicy, had nothing but good things to say about the entree they ordered.

I think it’s safe to conclude that Slims does an excellent job with their food. That night, we spent an average of Ksh. 1100 per person, inclusive of drinks.

In my opinion, you don’t need to run out and eat at Slims Restaurant Nairobi right away. Still, if ever you happen to be in the area, are already there for a drink, or are in the mood for good food in a very chic atmosphere, Slims is a restaurant worth trying out.
