Nyeri Technical Training Institute started in 1977 as a Technical Secondary school. In 1986 it changed its status to a Technical Training Institute, offering Craft Courses.

In 1991 the Institute started to offer Diploma Courses in various fields. Currently the Institute also offers Higher Diploma, holiday and part-time courses.

The Institute has a student population of 1300 both boarders and day scholars.
