Mount Kilimanjaro View Lodge is amazing. High, high up on the slopes of Kilimanjaro....driving there in the dark after our plane arrived and then waking in the morning to the huge magnificent view of Killie right outside our hut.

Our safari company had told us to use the Lodge's transportation from the airport which was a good suggestion.

The hut was small but adequate. Probably not for someone who has to have a 4 or 5 star hotel, but it is a phenomenal experience.

We stayed 3 days. Visited the Chagga village....what a hike down and then back up!

Be sure to have good sturdy hiking shoes. Was the place in Tanzania that I learned the most Swahili.

The staff was so patient in teaching it. Visited the school and Remy our guide took us to his home and we met his beautiful 103 year old mother.

He also gave me some very useful hiking tips as he is also a Killie guide. Also met Philip's mother whom I believe is 102. Attended church with Phillip (lodge owner) which was a wonderful experience, and he sent me back up the hill on a motorcycle!

He is a great man who is highly respected in the village and contributes much to it and its people.

The food was simple and oh, so tasty. And lots of it. The staff was wonderful, so friendly and helpful. Was also interesting talking with other guests. Definitely a wonderful place to visit right from the airport for the Killie view and immersion into African culture.
