Mahogany Springs hotel near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is in an excellent location and is so peaceful- I certainly slept like a rock after a long day of gorilla tracking.

The rooms were very clean and spacious, simple design without any kitschy decor that you often find in Uganda.

The lodge has been built with lots of thought and each of the rooms has panoramic views of the forest.

In the main building the far wall is completely glass and there is a large terrace allowing you view the beautiful scenery from here too.

The meals were excellent with an A la Carte menu.

The entire staff went out of their way to get to know the guests. They attended to my every need without hovering.

My boxed lunch for the forest was the envy of the other tourists in my group- it even had a delicious samosa that hit the spot while hiking.

I highly recommend Mahogany Springs for the quality of service and high caliber dining- I didn't want to leave!

It's not luxurious like some places we've stayed - but it's Uganda. I wouldn't feel right relaxing in a bubble bath at the end of a day in a country where clean water is a premium.

But it was amazing and I am pretty sure there's not a traveler reading this that would not have their breath taken away by the scenery and their heart warmed by the kindness and service of each and every person at this place.

My only regret is that we only had 2 nights here. It was the only place in BWINDI where we really felt relaxed, at home and well taken care of.

There are a lot of activities around the quaint village beyond just the Gorillas.

You can visit pygmy villages, do other nature walks and just relax. I could have easily stayed there for 4 nights to take it all in.
