The staff at Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort on arrival was very friendly and organised - which after a long journey with strangers - was definitely welcome. The first room we were put in - in the newly refurbished part - was absolutely immaculate.

But then they asked if they could move us to the old part...not sure why. This room was slightly more basic, but was clean and had a decent bathroom.

The hotel has a reasonable bar, shop, pool, internet cafe and dining area - which, when you consider this is a good 20 minute drive up a dirt track in the middle of a banana (could be plantain) plantation, is pretty amazing really. The food was average, but certainly not terrible - again, people need to remember where this hotel is!

The hotel is situated in Marangu so it's only 15 minutes from the start of the Marangu route and about an hour or so from the start of the Rongai route (the road is hellish). All in all, I thought the hotel was great value and a brilliant base for climbing Kili.
