We were absolutely blown away when we walked into the lobby and saw the panoramic views of the lake and surrounding hills and the gorgeous courtyard from which to view them. Birdnest @ Bunyonyi Resort Hotel in Uganda is right on Lake Bunyonyi and it is a beautiful spot to spend a few days relaxing.

There is a great courtyard for dining, sunning and hammock-lying, the food at the restaurant is great and the gardens are really nice with lots of bird life. There is even a (slightly green) pool down by the lake.

The hotel owner was very friendly and helpful, as were all the staff. The room was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable and had a good bathroom and balcony with its own share of the views.

We took a boat out on the lake, which the hotel booked for us, and really enjoyed it.

The rooms are extremely well designed with groovy Euro-African accoutrements.

The original building was apparently one of Idi Amin's vacation homes!

The Belgian couple that runs it has put their heart and soul into all aspects of the operation, so you can't go wrong!

It's undoubtedly the most comfortable spot to stay on Lake Bunyoni, though we tend to prefer the more rustic Bushara Island camp...If you're looking for creature comforts, this is where to stay.

There is a reasonable menu which will satisfy most tastes, the food is excellent and it is reasonably priced.

The patio is very pleasant, during the evening a fire is lit. There is direct access to the lake with a small jetty.

The swimming pool is green but is cleaned every day and water is pumped through.

I would suggest it is fed by the lake and any chemicals added to the pool will find their way back into the lake.

Remember this is quite high up so it can get chilly during the evening so take something just in case you need to keep that chill at bay.

The few negative aspects are completely unfounded. Stay here; seriously, it's hands down the best hotel on Lake Bunyonyi.
