I stayed in African Sunstar Resort Hotel in Karatu Town Tanzania for 2 nights after a Kilimanjaro summit while going on a safari in Lake Manyara and the Ngorongora Crater.

This place was absolutely spectacular - our best hotel experience in Tanzania so far.

After a day in Lake Manyara, our group of 9 headed to hotel. Hadn't found much about property on internet - ownership needs to get a good web presence.

Got a little concerned when we headed off the highway onto a pretty rough dirt road.

When we came upon hotel, our concerns were alleviated. Fenced compound with duplex cottages - beautiful. Well-kept grounds with plenty of flowers.

Main lodge was very nice - ramp, so it is actually wheelchair accessible. Met by staff and quickly processed into rooms.

Rooms are modern and pretty clean. Ours had a sitting room, bedroom and ensuite bathroom.

Each room seemed to have slightly different amenities - ours had a small refrigerator, along with a TV.

Bottles of waterwere supplied in rooms. Nice king-sized bed with good linens. Mosquito net seemed a little small for the bed. IKEA-like closets with hangers.

Bathroom was nice and modern - almost like being back home. Stand-up shower with a nice sink and vanity. Good towels. Plenty of hot water (yay!)

Food was absolutely excellent. Good table service - quick and efficient. A couple members of our party had food allergies which the chef took completely in stride.

Generally 4 course meals - salad, soup, entree and dessert. Everything was very well-presented and tasted awesome.

Chef even came out and gave us a few of his recipes - simple food done very well! Breakfasts were great - eggs made to order, really good coffee, lots of toast.

Hotel was relatively empty for the duration of our stay. Guides told us that this place was more expensive than other spots in Karatu.

Looking at the price we paid for our all-inclusive safari, I'd say that it was well worth it. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
